Last night we went into the CBD to attend a fellow author and speakers book launch. And as we walked past all the shops there were crowds of people buying gifts for friends and loved ones.
And it got me thinking……….. what if the BIGGEST GIFT we could give those we care about isn’t something that can be bought, wrapped in pretty xmas paper and placed under the xmas tree with a big bow on top?
WHAT IF……. its our time? Our undivided attention?
You see here I was sitting in a cafe with my teenage daughter after the Book Launch posting a picture of myself and two of my friends I hadn’t seen in ages on Facebook, when my daughter made it perfectly clear that she was unhappy about me doing so.
We’ve had this conversation before and Its a pet peeve of hers (even though she’s a typical teenager and on her phone a lot) She’s expressed that when I do this when we’re out eating she feels invisible. And as her mother that’s the last thing I want her to feel. So bravo to her for speaking up and expressing her feelings.
Technology has changed our lives, and in so many ways for the better. But when it causes a disconnect with those we care about the most, its time to wake up, wise up and put down our smart phones. ‘Cause lets face it in that instance they’re far from the Smart choice to make.
