Do you aspire to being an outrageously successful basketball coach like Coach K at Duke? If so read on…Coach K knows its not just about teaching the physical skills and drills…. In fact that’s only about 50% of why he’s so successful.
There are so many aspects that go into creating winning basketball teams. And each week I’m going to write a Blog about them.
In today’s blog we’re going to talk about genuinely caring about EVERY member of your team.
You see people don’t care how much you know… until they know how much you care.
Think about it…. who was your favorite coach and why? I bet you felt that they genuinely cared about you as a human being off the court as well as on the court?
I know I would never have become a professional dancer had I not found an amazing full time dance studio in London where the head of the school and all the teachers could see my potential, and believed in me.
You see I only took up dance at the relatively late age of 13. And ventured into my first ballet class age 16, only to to be told I was too old, too tall, had flat feet, not enough turn out in my hip sockets, and might as well forget my dream of becoming a professional dancer.
So finding Una Billings TV School of Dance on a trip to London was an absolute god send. And changed the total trajectory of my life. You see having been total numerous times I’d never make it, I’d given up on my dream. But thankfully my dream hadn’t given up on me!
As a basketball coach, you’re not just teaching your players how to play basketball. You’re teaching them crucial life skills.
Never underestimate how powerful you believing in each of your players is.
So what’s one thing you can do next time you see your team in practice to show them how much you care?
Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
And if you’d like my help it would be an honor to assist you. I’ve developed a peak performance strategy that has produced a 100% success rate in transforming basketball teams.
Here’s what Brad Dalton an Aussie Dual Olympian Basketball Player and Head Coach at Saint Augustine’s College has to say about working with me:
“Kathryn has worked with my teams on goals and confidence. I had a successful season when she helped my U22 women’s team win the State Championship in extra time, after coming 5th half way through the season.
So I decided to call on her to help my Saint Augustine’s College Varsity Team who were struggling with lack of belief. After working with Kathryn we went on to win the remainder of games that season, including the conference final by thirty points over a team that had beaten us both times during the regular season. The boys hardly missed a shot in the opening period and gave their opposition little chance of success.”
If you have the opportunity to work with Kathryn… go for it!”
